OCEAN REBELLION – ANGRY ON BEHALF OF THE FISH

Originally a splinter group from Extinction Rebellion, this collective of activists, performers, designers, oceanologists, one Olympic yachtswoman, 3% of Chris Packham (he sometimes joins) and those disillusioned with traditional NGOs has since evolved into a movement with a (sea)life of its own.

My role – sporadic but purposeful – is to help shape messaging and develop action concepts.

The work of Ocean Rebellion is to transform incredibly complex and often disheartening facts, data, and institutional floundering (pun very much intended) into powerful, PR-worthy moments that compel the public, corporations, and government to take notice and take action.

These actions are often theatrical, surreal, and humorous, skirting anti-protest laws by using performance art as both a method of expression and a form of resistance. Also it allows for the abundant use of fish-related puns.

Deep Sea Mining is another travesty for the oceans: huge dredging machinery used to mine for precious minerals to feed the electronics’ industry. One of many issues  is noise pollution. Levels are estimated to reach anywhere between  120 - 195 decibels affecting whales and other deep diving marine life. We divised our own noise poluttion for climate events like the recent UNited Nationa Summit in South of France of conferences for Deep Sea Mining brands: a heavy-heavy metal band to disrupt, irritate and bring attention to the cause. Motorhead concerts, fact fans would reach 130 dB.
