SXSW LONDON – BRANDING AN EVENT ACROSS A WHOLE NEIGHBOURHOOD
What do you get when you cross an Austin creative tech powerhouse festival with London’s East End? A recipe for chaos and disorder, unless you have stand-out branding and audience-friendly wayfinding.
30 venues, hundreds of speakers, singers and presenters – ranging from Nile Rodgers and Idris Elba to Jane Goodall and Jimmy Wales – and a maze of Shoreditch streets. How do you create an identity that helps people find their way and matches the ethos of a bold, future-facing festival?
For SXSW London’s debut, we built a digital-first identity around the theme of ‘Beautiful Collisions’, celebrating unexpected crossovers in tech, music, and film.
Each track of music, film and conference, had its own colour and custom icon, tied to the SXSW arrow and evolved from the campaign (see here) which was inspired by east London’s neon soaked flyposters and market stall signs.
With animated, sound-reactive textures and a system that balanced clarity with chaos, the result was brash yet functional, and future-proof; made not just for this inaugural year, but to evolve with SXSW London for years to come.
A real person on LinkedIn said: “It was so visible and vibrant, well done, it really stood out in the urban landscape too and helped to navigate between venues.”
